Catching up

... is not gonna happen this time around.

Sorry.

It just seems a bit overwhelming right now. I have four young children. Our time here is drawing to a bittersweet end. My husband will be flying back out to Indiana to close on a house in a week, that I've only seen in pictures (and he's trying to decide on paint colors based off of those said pictures). I have four young children. I'm trying to keep the house as tidy as possible while Mihali shows it to potential renters. I have four young children. SCOTUS has put my mind into an overdrive of prayer, future thoughts and the news (and I've been failing miserably at trying to avoid the latter two). And I'm still waiting on pictures from Danya.

Does that sound overwhelming? Well, it really isn't. :) But it does make me fall asleep easily at night (except last night when a raging storm folded our 1/4filled pool in half, ripped a branch off the tree, and pushed the play structure and grill into the grass... and kept me up for an hour).

Needless to say, I'm not ready to give you an onslaught of pictures.

So you get to wait. And if you aren't my family, you can thank me later...

But I've been told that I'm "slacking". So I will try to do a brief update. :)

This is Aiden. He is four.
He will randomly quote and laugh Calvin and Hobbes comic strips, and anything else his brother says/does.
He loves Legos, but melts down into a sobbing heap when his creations are destroyed.
He sometimes plays well with others, and loves on Bowen (but has no concept of personal space or gentleness).
We have discovered that it rains here a lot during the summer in NC. Lots of times that comes in thunderstorms. He doesn't like thunderstorms, because he is scared of thunder and lighting. After praying daily to God to not send any more thunderstorms, he finally thanked God tonight that Mihali provided us with this house that withstands thunderstorms, but he knows God is very very powerful now, and he knows that God is more powerful then the thunderstorms, so God doesn't have to send anymore of them. Lesson learned. ;)
He also thinks he can wear 18mo jeans, because "Mommy, they are long enough, see?!"

Even more scary then my 4 year old wearing 18mo old jeans is...

a 6 year old.
(He wanted to wear "shorts" with pockets, and well, all his jeans were in the laundry, and those were lying around, so...)

This is Liam. He is six.
He "hates" math, because it takes him "a long time" (because he is always distracted by his brothers and has this mindset after one day where he had trouble).
He "hates" reading, because it is "too hard" (although he does it quite often on his own, willingly and loves reading to his brothers).
He "hates" Legos, because they are "boring" (but will play and build for hours on end, and look at Lego instruction manuals for fun).
He "hates" being outside because there is "nothing to do" (but will play with Callum whenever Callum asks).

He is one positive child ;)

Seriously though,  he is servant-hearted and sensitive, always trying to help.
He loves reading his Bible, and other books, loves drawing, and loves pestering his brothers (because "it is so much fun").

This is Callum. He is two.
He does not like to wear shorts/pants, 18mo or otherwise... and usually pulls them off. I find them around the house in various places.
He still makes my heart skip a beat at least once every day.
He still gives his guardian angel a workout.
He still is a nosy neighbor, but he no longer tries to climb over the fence.
He loves attacking his brothers, especially when they tell him "no" and if you hear him screaming, it's probably because Liam is dragging him out a bedroom.
His favorite word is ice cream.
He speaks in one-syllable words (except for ice cream), so you have to guess based off of the first syllable, but if you know any mode of transportation (including construction), you are usually set.

This is Bowen. He is now 2 months old.
He is a happy baby (except when wearing a gifted Purdue onesie).
He still has a double chin and cheeks, and is often told by everyone he meets that he looks like Callum.
He talks and laughs a lot, except when on video.
If ever there was a well-loved baby, he is it. His brothers invade his personal space, kiss him, hug him, play with his fingers and toes, squash his soft spots, pat his head, gift him toys and teddy's, hold him and let me know when he needs changed or fed (whenever he cries) and wipes his spit-up.

So there you have it. A "brief" update. ;)

Until next time...

Moments Like These...

make this Momma's heart melt :)

I was a little nervous when I was putting Bowen down for a nap and things got a little too quiet downstairs, except for the occasional burst of laughter. It usually means a mess has evolved, or someone will be shortly crying from getting pummeled for getting into the older two's legos. And then I saw this. :)

By the way... this is one of their favorite (library) books. Even Callum's. Probably because the Monster says "dank you" just like my son!

Book Review: Untangled (and a Giveaway!)

Where do you place your worth??

Wow. I feel like this book was written for me.

From the first pages that Carey Scott pens in her first published venture, "Untangled", her words resonated with me. She introduces you to herself in a very transparent, humble and personal way at the get-go, and the reader is able to see why she could have so many insecurities lingering and fighting to control her soul. In her book, Scott points out the various "knots" that can "tangle" up our lives; from our family and friendships, to our home and the social media, she connects how each of these facets can deceive us, warp our expectations of ourselves and steer us away from our focus on Christ, whispering into our soul that we are "not good enough". She also notes how these insecurities can affect those around us, and the ripple effect that can last for generations when we try to untangle our own knots instead of relying on the Lord to loosen the knots and redeem them in His time. Whether it is our marriage or facebook profile, we can place things on a pedestal in our hearts, and by placing an unhealthy emphasis upon their opinion, turn them into false saviors in our lives. Since only the sovereign Lord is constant and unchanging, this wreaks havoc upon our self-worth.

In each chapter, Scott wittily and whole-heartedly tries to point the reader to the power and validation of worth that is found in Christ alone and how, in His eyes, we are of immeasurable value. Almost every chapter ends with a personal testimony from different women, Scripture verses to anchor us to the Rock, a sample prayer to help break that specific tangle in our lives and questions to reflect. Bible verses are also scattered throughout each chapter, although this was my biggest beef with the book- along with seven other versions, the main "translation" of the Bible used was The Message. I guess I must be old school, and I'm sure it helped make the book flow, but I don't think Scripture needs to be simplified in order to make it personal and relevant. For example, at one point she reflects upon us being the salt of the earth, but the Scripture quoted refers to us merely as a "seasoning". Personally, I feel as though this translation takes away from the depth of meaning that can be found in the Word.

When "Untangled" first came up as a review option to my email, I almost did not request it, because I figured it was another one of those Christian living, self-help books being written today. They are a dime a dozen. I'm so glad I changed my mind. Personally, I think this is one of the best books I've read on this subject. As I read each chapter, my own depravity and helplessness become more and more evident, as well as the necessity for God's grace in every aspect, every moment of my life as I guard my heart against the insecurities that want to rise up within me. Although there is a lot of meat in each chapter, it is a quick read and I highly recommend this book.

.. so much so in fact, that if you comment here or text me (because I know how many of you guys roll), I will put you in a drawing for your very own copy (because mine is covered with underlines, notes and prayers in the margins)... and if it doesn't bless you like it blessed me, you can always pass it on :)

Let's make the giveaway deadline in a couple of weeks, so the 21st. :)
