You know you are raising a boy...

...when his Daddy marvels that he is dunking the ball before walking more then a few steps at a time*. This video was shot earlier in the afternoon. By the time Joel got home, he didn't even need to pull himself up by the hoop ;)

* Liam would want me to note that he has, in fact, gotten Bowen to walk a few feet to him. He has not chosen to do this to anyone else in the family.

A Day in the Life of...

Callum!

I decided that periodically I would show you all what it is like to live in our house with our children. Actually, I wanted to show you what a typical day with Callum is like, because many of you have asked if his antics have changed now that he is "older". But, so that other siblings (who may or may not be looking over my shoulder right now) don't feel bad. We will each let them have their day. So expect to see lots of pictures of Lego playing ;)

And without further ado, here is Callum!

Callum is usually the first up every morning (usually around 6. Sometimes later). It usually means he grabs a little yogurt cup, sits down and eats it before wandering back into bed with me. This morning, he woke me up to tell me the microwave went "boom!" ... That's never a good sign. In typical fashion though, he tried cleaning most of it up first. When it comes to this kid, God tends to give me an overabundant dose of mercy. This time in the form that Callum was actually near the microwave as it had 5 more minutes on the timer when he got scared of the noise and opened it. He wanted to make sauce for pancakes.

He decided to eat my dessert yogurt instead of his normal vanilla. A caffeine high doesn't bode well for my day. :/

Throughout the day you will find lots of dancing. He gets his moves from his dad. ;)

And many days you will find at least one article of clothing on backwards. Or inside out. Or both. Don't try to reason with him either. If he doesn't want it to change, it's not worth the stubborn battle. Maybe this Mama should care more about her child's appearance... but she doesn't.

Playing in the sand pit for the baseball diamond.

Yes, I am that mom who takes sand toys to the baseball game so that her kids will have toys to play with there. The other moms might not want to lower themselves to my standards, but I have heard them encourage their children to go and play and share the toys with mine. ;)

And since I snuck a picture of Aiden in, here is one of Liam as well (did you note my above comment about children hovering... ;)   ... I think he ended up getting a triple at this at bat.
Playing with random water trickles going into the garage drain. He actually stared at it for 5 minutes, before he finally decided to help it along.

It rained in the afternoon. So they were housed indoors.

He isn't afraid to take on the bigger/stronger/older opponents.

And to head-butt them to take them down.

It looks so fun, sometimes the whole gang wants to get involved. Until Mommy gets involved when it gets too rowdy, tells them to go downstairs and clean up. I send the boys to clean up their Legos. And Callum his duplos. "Ok, sure!" is his response.

I come down to find this. Guiltily he looks at me. And I say, "Is that a duplo?"

So he walks over and generously throws a couple handfuls into the bin...

...while he waits for me to head back upstairs.

10 minutes later, they come upstairs playing train. At least they aren't bashing each other with pillows.

Being my knight and killing a [dead] spider again. :)

And lest I be lonely, he decided to keep me company and read a book while I was folding laundry.

Saying goodnight to the tree frog.

Bedtime yogurt snack? Umm, no. Play puzzle? Ummm, no. Endless requests to keep us out of bed? Definitely. But there is always tomorrow. :)

I didn't figure you needed pictures of naptime, and I didn't take pictures on our walk and other random parts, but you've got the jist of what a typical day is like. Some days there is definitely more destruction involved, some days more mess, but some days I am let off the hook.
All in all, I'm blessed. :)

Toddler Feedings

Sorry I haven't posted in a loooong time. I'll try to catch up, Katie. ;)

These videos are what happens if you let your toddler feed his younger brother. Sorry about the blurriness.

Torture.

Taking the proverbial imaginary airplane-spoon flying to a whole new level.

Don't worry... after these videos, I fed him properly until his tummy was nice and full ;)

March

Wow. I can't believe it's April already. March came and went so fast. Probably because my children were sick for over half of it. Poor Bowen still has congestion-related mucus coming out of his eyes sometimes. :(   What else went on in March?

Celebrating Nana's birthday from afar

(extra credit points for using green spuds on St Patrick's Day!)

Random Acts of Love towards Mommy (in this case picking flowers in the woods and surprising her with them one afternoon)

Lots of this...

Joel showing off his amazing muscles, planning and building and planting skills (and lots of love and hard work) to give me a garden this year...

Liam was constantly at his Daddy's side helping!

The circumference of a circle... so thankful to apply the math we learned this year!

Arts and Crafts.

(and a magnetic Roman helmet)

More of this... both indoors and out.

And more of this from my hardworking lads!

So cute. I was doing the dishes, and Liam came downstairs after he got his pj's on and handed me four quarters for "my labors" that day. He then told me the rest of the money in his wallet, $5.07, was going to his Daddy, because he has worked really really hard for my garden, and ought to be paid for it. :)

Daddy's Birthday!

Liam wanted to buy his Daddy a Lego set that they could build together. :)

A bust of a homemade cake. Liam wanted to use his mini bundt pan. And Joel wanted mint chocolate. But I was so distracted by boys, I forgot to put mint in the cake batter, and then forgot that it would need more then just a bit of mint extract since I was using a coconut cream based ganache. So it was mostly chocolate on chocolate with a hint of ganache. I'll make it upto him later.

There was a lot of that going on at the table. Still want to eat it? ;)
... at least we taught him the proper way to cover his mouth when coughing!

How about now... with two sick children trying to help blow out the candles? Spit sprinkles, anyone?? :P

Not only did my amazing husband build me a raised bed garden this year, but he also fulfilled my dream of having a couple apple trees, pear trees and a peach tree... (actually, he blew that dream out of the ballpark)

And Brian F helped, by loaning a truck full of manure ;)

And then my hardworking boys would be out early weekend mornings (and rainy evenings) to start digging up the ground to plant me berry bushes! Love these guys!

Easter egg hunts, courtesy of Nana.

The Purdue boy. The "cowboy". And the Grump. (Though he actually smiled for this picture, he cried for the next 30min because he missed his Dad).

She bought them each a little lego set, because I didn't want candy or junk food in them since they were still fighting smaller secondary infections. Each kid had a different color to find. And it was marked in Japanese so I would know, but not them. Genious!

So that was our month. How was yours?! :)

When life gives you snow

...  make some epic snow cones! :)

The boys were pretending to scoop ice cream out in the snow earlier yesterday, and it made me think how fun it would be to make some snow cones. So we pulled out the waffle cone maker that my sister bought me for Christmas, the chocolate syrup I had randomly made that morning, and after dinner, I let the boys scoop out their own snow (don't worry, we did clean, untouched patches!). Talk about dreams come true!

Responding to the forecast...

When the forecast predicts 6-8 inches of snow and 40mph winds, the family responds in different ways. :)

Daddy
who is unable to do surgery when the county hospital an hour away goes on ancillary power stays home and...

 Mommy
whenever the weather gets cold and blistery gets cravings for yeast (and is blessed to not need for a bread machine when she has two little "kneaders"...

Liam and Aiden
brave the outdoors to "make the snowplow's job easy for him by doing all the hard work"...

Callum
who has a love/hate relationship with the snow, opts to play by himself for a long swatch of time...

and
Bowen
entertains himself, when not clinging to Mommy or napping!

I'm sure these next couple of days will see plenty of outdoor fun for everyone, but I was definitely thankful for the heated indoors as I heard the wind blow, and saw the snow fall today! Hope you all stayed warm too!
