Summer Reading Opportunity

I meant to blog about this a month ago when I first received the email about it.

... but I forgot. Typical me, huh?! :)

Anyways, we are doing it. And if your children are 12 or under, you should too! 6 simple book reports, and they get a $10 gift card to Family Christian Stores. Just turn in/email your completed forms by August 27th. You should've seen Liam's eyes light up when I told him he would receive a $10 gift card... it was such a big amount of money to him!

And, as a bonus, it gets him to continue reading (not that we have that problem) and practice his writing/spelling skills (we do have issues with when to use capital letters). Yay!

The Fourth

We celebrated the weekend by having our GG over. This past year we have been so blessed to have found a local church where the Gospel is preached; they don't have mid-week services like our AC fellowship, but they get together in "growth groups" to connect, fellowship, talk and apply the sermon and spend an hour or so in prayer. To say I've grown through all of this would be an understatement. We are excited to get back into the AC world and all the relationships we have there, but we will deeply miss the ones we have begun here.

Usually on holidays, half the GG goes out of town. The other half with no family around get together to celebrate as one big family. We thought it would be easier on everyone else if we just had everyone else over at our place, so our boys didn't run a muck in their homes. It was so much fun, and Joel pointed out I didn't stress out once (probably because he was doing the grilling!).

So many of you have asked, so I quick snapped a couple of pictures of some of them (when everyone is all together we have probably close to 30). We were going to play games (our GG loves games), but then someone mentioned fireworks-- there is a big show only a couple of miles away (and a lot of woods) away, so we cleaned my kitchen of the food spread in about 5 minutes and were all out the door! We were goign to play games in the parking lot, but there was so much traffic, we all got split up. We ended up being tucked back in a small hospital's parking lot, where there was hardly any cars. It wasn't as close as some of the other GG were able to get, but it was lovely for my ears, and we found out that Callum doesn't like the noise of the "boum!" anyway! So it was perfect.

Donna, the one on the far left is who came over on such short notice to watch the boys when I delivered Bowen.

Bowen loves to talk to Lauren.

First setup... Waiting for fireworks to begin.

Our second location (to see them better).

Callum didn't want anything to do with them for the first 20min unless he was in Joel's arms.

Bowen was content to stay mosquito-bite free by hanging out in the van.

Our third location: Joel had me repark the van close to the exit, and he parked the boys' chairs right next to it. As soon as the finale was finished, he quicked opened the door, they jumped in while he threw the chairs in the back and we were off. It took the Cobb's (who live in our sub) over an hour to get home with the traffic. With our hidden location and quick exit, my husband bragged that we were home in five. ;)
