Springtime in Kensington

My good friend Faye reminded me this past weekend about a metro-park's blog I had seen a couple weeks back of farm animals being born at Kensington (I had originally been interested in their maple syrup demonstrations, but the boys got sick, thus ruining that educational experience). So after revisiting the blog yesterday morning, I saw that they had lots of new animals (the newest being 3 day old goat twins!)... and thus we braved the chilly 40 degree weather, because this pregnant Mama wanted to show her boys something that represents spring besides crocus blossoms and finches!

Aiden enjoyed the farm a lot more then Liam did... Liam sat in the stroller the majority of the outdoor portion, while Aiden ran around pointing out all the animals. But both enjoyed the children's corner inside the farm center, and Mama got to be the tour guide with the maple trees. :)

Liam was confused why this wasn't like syrup, and why he didn't see any Indians making the syrup (he saw pictures of that old-school process in the farm center...

A Couple Facts:
It takes 40gal of tree sap to make 1 gallon of syrup.
The sap from the tree is 98% water. It needs to be boiled down and evaporated until it's 68% water. The best method to do this is by heating it up via burning wood, hence why it's very pricey! :)
