Fun during the Fourth
Joel was post-call Wednesday, so even though he had to work most of Friday, it felt almost like we had a 5-day weekend with him! So what did we do?
Well, on Wednesday, Daddy took Liam on a date and Mommy took Aiden and Callum... shopping. What fun. I found out that my child has been cramming his size 7 foot into a size 5 shoe. I had tried putting him in other shoes and he always threw a fit. But now that I know for sure what he is, I've hidden his size 5 shoes :) And we watched the beginning of a lot of fireworks!
Thursday we had some friend's over. It was kind of last minute (in my mind, at least) and sadly my house was not decorated at all in a patriotic sense. So I ad-libbed a little bit. It still wasn't much but it worked. We had the Jones' over- Micah graduated and will be heading to Kentucky/Cincinatti for a couple of fellowships, so we wanted to see him one last time before he moves. Then we all headed over to the Evensen's (another one of Joel's coworkers) for texas sheet cake, homemade ice cream and fireworks. They were fun. But loud (they were right next door). Liam enjoyed them. Aiden had to have his ears covered the whole time. And Callum laughed and had the hiccups for most of the time when his ears were covered.
Friday and Saturday were mostly low key. We watched fireworks shot off from in our neighborhood (it still is soooo weird for me to be able to see them so close and not at a city-sponsored event) and played with sparklers- Liam was brave enough to hold them this time, but Aiden was done after round 1. :) Joel took the boys to Home Depot where they made little minion cars to celebrate the premiere of Despicable Me 2. And then after naps, we headed to the Harmons for a double dinner (as both Sarah's made an entree) and then walked to Ritter's for dessert.
Both Joel and my allergies started up full-force Saturday, so the end of our weekend was not as fun, but if we can see past our sinus-foggy brains, we still have so much to be thankful for throughout our mini vacation :)
