Liam loved VBS and talked all week about his two teachers (Kelly R and Jamie B), recited his Bible verse (Ephesians 6:10) and sang their theme song, a shortened version of "The Sharpest Blade".
It was fun to see him so excited-- to the point that he would get dressed, and eat his breakfast so fast, that he usually sat out in the van for about 10 minutes waiting for me to finish taking care of the other two. :)
And of course his favorite part were the crafts Laura P. came up with for the younger kids: their own pillowcase, and a wooden sword and shield made by Hartzell K. Every day he would try to guess what he'd eat as a snack (it was more like a full meal) and was so excited to tell me about the treats and lemonade (sometimes red lemonade!) they would give him.
Liam loved the outdoor activities as well. Cherise B came up with all kinds of fun games and challenges for them to gain knighthood... and even when temperatures soared into the mid 90's (without humidity!), she was so positive and switched her game plan to lemon shake-ups and water-filled fun! Liam's favorite event was finding ice cubes with Mitchell and Grant underneath sudsy water. Let's just say they were soaked when they were done!
Even Aiden got in on the action, fishing in a little pool and finding his friend Anne Marie who he knew would be willing to share her fruit loops with him :)
Wednesday evening we had a family fellowship dinner and Matt Oesch (Alto) talked about the love of God, and the VBS fun ended Friday evening with a picnic at Plymouth park. It had been debated switching it to church, as the weather called for scattered thunderstorms, but since the skies were clear, up until 6pm there was a 0% chance (at 6pm it increased to 30%), we thought we would be ok. God showed us that only he knows the weather however, and after lightly sprinkling, for a minute or two, it suddenly turned into a heavy downpour. Everyone was underneath the shelter and figured we were in the clear when a huge gust of wind blew the rain sideways for over a minute. All together the fun only lasted for 5 minutes or so, but it left everyone soaking wet, food trays scattered everywhere and plates overturned. I don't think a single person was dry, except maybe Callum who was shielded by my body. And thus, I learned I experienced my first derecho :) Afterwards the kids, sang their theme song (I thought I recorded it, but it was still on the camera setting- boo!!) and then ran back to the playground and splash pad amidst overturned trees and broken branches.
